Waves 08 - 'Nirvana' : The State of Statelessness

Waves, the annual Cultural Fesival of BITS, Pilani - Goa Campus came through successfully on the first weekend of March. The festival was inaugurated by Ms. Chandni Sahgal, the founder and managing proprietor, D'Essence Consulting, the Country Head, MTV India, and also the Chief Executive Officer, Pritish Nandy Communications Ltd. The list of her accomplishments stands endless.

The Events spanned across six categories namely music, drama, literary, dance, art and miscellaneous along with special events like Mr and Miss Waves. Overwhelming response was seen from outstation participants from colleges in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Delhi, including enthusiastic participation from the Goan colleges.

Waves was not just about events and partcipation. The Special Nights at Waves included Sea Rock, a semi-pro Rock Show contest, a captivating Dj night by Nikhil Chinnapa of MTV Fame and a pro night by professional bands Evergreen and Junkyard Groove.

For all those who wanted to learn at Waves, numerous workshops were held by professionals in respective areas of excellence. Mr. Toby Fernandes of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Fame conducted a dance workshop on Jive and Cha-Cha along with Bollywood and Samba.A workshop on 'how to eat with chopsticks' was held by Goenchin chinese restaurant, Panjim. A workshop on Mocktail making by professionals from Taj Holiday Village attracted a large number of people. Azulejos- a portuguese style tile painting workshop had flooding registrations from people who wished to explore their creative bent of mind. One of the sponsors, Faber Castell also held a painting workshop spanning all the three days.

Goa Medical College (GMC) emerged the overall winner, with PCCE (Goa) and Watmull College (Mumbai) bagging second and third places respectively.
