Students from the department have proved themselves time to time in the technical festivals organized in colleges all around the country. Be it Techfest at IIT-B or Techkriti at IIT-K or Shastra at IIT-M or APOGEE at Pilani campus or our very own QUARK, people have brought laurels to the department from everywhere.

A team of students was the All-India runner up in Microsoft Imagine cup in 2007.

Students did projects in various companies during the PS1 (Practice School 1) and PS2. Students have gained experience in many industries & research establishments such as: Accenture, Oracle, Satyam, Yahoo, Aricent, HP Global software, HP Labs, Fiorano software, i-flex solutions, i2 Technologies India, Intel, Sun Microsystems, makemytrip.com, Juniper networks and their projects have been well appreciated by the organizations.

Students have got internship opportunities at premier research institutes of the country (like IISc Bangalore, CEERI) and research labs of various companies (like Microsoft, Yahoo, Google, etc).

KERNEL won the BITS World Cup (Inter-Discipline Cricket Series).

An Online Yearbook was developed by a student of IS for the passing out batch which was appreciated by one and all. Each student has memories of their college which they would cherish throughout their life. This site has been designed with the aim of making annual Yearbook easy and simple, yet intuitive and exciting. The yearbook reflects the entire college life of a BITSian. The students of the passing out batch can log in and write testimonials for their friends and batch mates and maintain their profile for yearbook.

Workshop was conducted by Rav Ahuja from IBM labs, Toronto on Next generation database and software development (SOA and DB2).

At QUARK '08:

The following events were organized by the department (in association with with ASCII).

Binary Pirates: The first event of its kind in India offering budding hackers the perfect arena to battle it out amongst them and emerge as ‘THE ELITE HACKER’. This multi-team hacking contest tested both the defensive and offensive network security skills of the participants.

Quark Online Programming Contest: The coding extravaganza which saw the top coders battle it out online. It aimed at problem solving logic formulation skills of the participants.

Code Wars: An AI design contest. Participants had to design an AI game engine which can play against similar game engine designed by other teams.

CodOlympics: The ultimate contest for computer enthusiasts. This event tested knowledge of every aspect in computer science from scripting to coding, networking to debugging and software engineering to understanding cryptic code.

Contrive: Mega Online Puzzle (Strategy based online Quiz). This is an innovative and unique online strategy based online quiz cum game developed entirely by department.

Department Stall: A department stall was put up in the BITS RnD section during Quark '08 showcasing the work done by the students of the deparment. The stall had projects done by the students on display, talks and posters on the latest in the computer tech world and many small workshops.
